Talk about editing and creation of Vavoom mods

New version

Postby TheCount » 17 Jun 2008 03:28

Well, it's been a while since I last fooled around with Vavoom progs, so I had the bright idea to start again.
Upon downloading the latest versions I had quite a few pleasant surprises, and some rather unpleasant ones. For one, I love how states have been simplified, things are much easier now.
But, there are a couple things I don't understand. Where have the projectile, actor, etc. progs gone? What are these EntityEx things? Why are certain things (like centaurs or ettins in Hexen) defined with decorate, what is that, and how can I edit them?

I'm really clueless here, so any response is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Many classes were moved to decorate. Decorate is a pseudolanguage used initially by ZDoom (AFAIK). I believe that was made mostly for compatibility with ZDoom mods.
You may find them in 'vavoom/basev/basepak.pk3/actors'.

EntityEx "things" are parts of EntityEx class that, in common, compose the whole class EntityEx. This division was made to allow modders substitute some parts of the base class(es) if they want to change some basic algorythms.

Great. Thanks a lot, this is working perfectly.

I want to praise Janis once again for making everything so easy, just by playing around with things I was able to implement a fourth class in Hexen, in just an hour and a half :D
